Seminarian from Ratcliff ordained a deacon
Josh Stengel, a member of St. Anthony Church in Ratcliff and seminarian for the Diocese of Little Rock, was one of 30 Americans ordained to the transitional diaconate Oct. 8 at the Altar of the Chair at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican.

Proposed pastoral: Marriage is not just a private matter
WASHINGTON (CNS) -— Hoping to reverse what they call “a disturbing trend” toward viewing marriage as “a mostly private matter” with personal satisfaction as its only goal, the U.S. Catholic bishops will debate and vote on a 57-page pastoral letter on marriage at their Nov. 16-19 meeting in Baltimore.

Appreciating the amazing grace of the band U2
A new book called “The Gospel According to U2” captures two of my great loves in life — Jesus and the music of these four men from Ireland: Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. Most people who follow popular music know about the Christian roots of the biggest rock band in the world. But many of the Christians who followed U2’s career in the 1980s thought they “lost it” in the 1990s. I was one of them. And I was wrong. (Columns)

More prayers for abortion providers
Clearly there are people out there who have hatred and anger toward the men and women who work in abortion clinics. Whether they are doctors, nurses, receptionists or security guards, we are sure they all have been targeted by violence or hate speech. (Editorial)
