St. Edward Church in Little Rock celebrated its 125th anniversary with an Oktoberfest, including a rummage sale Oct. 1 and 2 and a children's carnival in MacArthur Park, Mass, German Oktoberfest dinner, live music, raffle and bingo Oct. 2.
During the carnival, children enjoyed face painting, mural painting and presentations from the Little Rock Fire Department, local Taekwondo and gymnastics groups and Irish dancing.
The parish in downtown Little Rock was founded by German immigrants in 1885.
"We had a similar event several years ago and wanted to revive that spirit," principal Jason Pohlmeier said. "Oktoberfest goes back to St. Edward's German roots, and we wanted to honor that heritage."
"As we continue to move forward, this event will help with the building fund. We also focused on building a partnership with MacArthur Park, so as neighbors we can grow together."
