Prayerful witness saves lives

Pro-life supporters gather Feb. 19 at a sidewalk prayer service outside the Little Rock Family Services clinic in Little Rock to highlight the 40 Days for Life campaign.

From Feb. 22 - April 1, participants in the Little Rock 40 Days for Life campaign will maintain a prayerful 12-hour vigil outside Little Rock Family Services, Arkansas' only surgical abortion clinic. In Fayetteville, participants will pray outside the Planned Parenthood clinic.

Other cities in Arkansas that don't have an abortion provider will hold special prayer events, coordinator Mary Pate said, including Fort Smith, Mena, Newport and Harrison.

The power of prayer to save the lives of abortion-vulnerable babies and their mothers was highlighted during the service.

"We've had a lot of lives saved out here through our prayers. I know we've helped many people change their lives that we don't even know about. We have no idea how many people leave here or don't turn in because they saw someone here," Pate said. "Not long ago I was asked by someone, 'What good is the one or two that you save? Dozens are dying here every week.' My response to him was, 'We know that God cares for just the one, so that's why we're here.'"

During the fall 2011 40 Days for Life campaign, seven babies that they know of were saved, she said.
