1. THE CONTEST: Arkansas Catholic’s Directory Photo Contest seeks a color photo of an architectural element or detail of a Catholic church or institution in Arkansas to appear on the cover of the 2011 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory.

2. WHO MAY ENTER: Any photographer, amateur or professional, who is a resident of Arkansas over 18 years old may enter his or her work in this contest. Entries must be submitted by the original photographer. Employees of the Diocese of Little Rock and their immediate family members are not eligible.

3. DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: All entries must be received in the Arkansas Catholic office, 2500 North Tyler St., Little Rock, Arkansas, by noon on Friday, March 19, 2010. A complete entry includes a single photograph and a completed signed entry form, with model release(s) if applicable. Incomplete entries or late entries may not be accepted.

Winners will be notified by mail after April 16, 2010, and announced in a later issue of Arkansas Catholic. The 2011 Directory will arrive in late September 2010.

4. SUBJECTS: Eligible subjects are any architectural element or detail, interior or exterior, of a Catholic church or institution in the Diocese of Little Rock. Photos must be usable in vertical format with sufficient “background” area around the main subject to allow room for printing the directory title. Photo must not be more than two years old and must represent the subject’s current appearance.

A signed model release form must be obtained for each person whose recognizable likeness appears in the entry photo. If the person is a minor, a parent or legal guardian must sign the release. (A sample model release form is available in the official entry packet.)

5. ENTRY FORMAT: Entries must be submitted in one of the following formats:
a. High-resolution RGB digital photo file of at least 5 megapixels size in JPEG or EPS format on a CD.
b. 8” x 10” color glossy photographic print. (Inkjet prints are not usable.)
c. 4” x 6” color print accompanied by the original color photo negative.
d. Color photographic positive film transparency, such as a 35mm slide.

Photos must not be modified by retouching in any manner, “Photoshopping,” extreme cropping, digital enlargement or excessive adjustment of color or exposure. The “ideal” entry is a well-exposed transparency or an unmodified digital file exactly as it came from a digital camera or scanner.

6. ENTRY IS FREE: No entry fee, purchase or payment is necessary to enter or win.

7. HOW TO ENTER: A signed official entry form, attesting that the entrant is the original photographer and copyright owner, must accompany each entry.
Enclose the entry photo, completed entry form and any needed model releases in one envelope and send it to:
Directory Photo Contest
Arkansas Catholic
P. O. Box 7417
Little Rock, AR 72217

An entrant may enter the contest more than once, but each entry must be one photograph of a different church or institution. A separate envelope and entry form is required for each entry.

8. JUDGING: Entries will be judged by Arkansas Catholic staff based on the photo’s composition, technical quality, visual appeal and suitability for the cover of the directory. If no photo suitable for the directory cover is submitted for the contest, Arkansas Catholic reserves the right to select contest winners without publishing any of the photos. First, second and third places will be awarded. Judging decisions are final.

9. AWARDS: The first-place winning photo may appear on the cover of the directory and photographer’s credit will be given in the directory if it is used. The first-place winning entrant will also receive a copy of the directory and a one-year subscription to Arkansas Catholic (total value $30) and a certificate of award. Second-place and third-place winning entrants will receive a certificate of award. A list of winners will be posted on the Arkansas Catholic Web site on or after April 16, 2010.

10. USE AND RETURN OF ENTRIES: By entering the contest, an entrant grants unlimited non-exclusive rights to Arkansas Catholic and the Diocese of Little Rock to use, modify or reproduce the photo entry for any purpose, including any medium or form of distribution. Negatives and transparencies may be returned if the entry is accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope. No other materials will be returned.

11. LIMITATION: The Diocese of Little Rock, Arkansas Catholic and its staff and volunteers are not responsible for any entries which are late, lost, incomplete, misdirected, stolen, mutilated, illegible or postage due, or any combination thereof.
