Sister Rosarita Huber, OSB, who taught 48 years at Catholic and public schools in Arkansas, died May 7. She was 87.
She was born Gertrude Louise on Sept. 24, 1928, to George and Sophie Huber in Subiaco. She attended St. Scholastica Academy, entered St. Scholastica Monastery and made her religious profession June 24, 1948. She chose the name Sister Mary Rosarita.
She attended Webster College in Webster Groves, Mo., and received her bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in organ and a minor in education.
In 1948, she began teaching and throughout the 48 years, taught at St. Scholastica School, St. Boniface School, St. Scholastica Academy, St. Edward School, Subiaco Academy and St. Scholastica Education Center. She also taught at Howard and Tilles public schools in Fort Smith from 1970 to 1996.
She used her musical gifts at St. Scholastica as an organist, music teacher and choir director. From 2001 to 2016, after her retirement, Sister Rosarita was the manager of the monastery laundry.
She is survived by two brothers, Herbert J. Huber and Stan A. Huber; and one sister, Therese Hoelzeman.
A Mass of Christian Burial was May 10 at St. Scholastica Monastery.
