Benedictine sister also served in public schools

Sister Jeremy Molett, OSB, who served many years as a teacher and principal in Fort Smith, died Oct. 6. She was 87.

Jo Ann Molett was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Rathbun, Iowa, to Pete Molett and Uneeta Cline Molett. On June 24, 1959, she took the name Sister Mary Jeremy after being received at St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith. She made her first profession two years later.

In Des Moines, Iowa, she studied at the American Business Institute. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

She served as a teacher in Missouri and Arkansas, including Holy Rosary School in Stuttgart and Sts. Cyril and Methodius School in Slovak. Sister Jeremy spent many years as a teacher in Fort Smith public schools and served as principal in Belle Point and Albert Pike schools.

At the time of her death, she lived at Chapel Ridge Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Smith.

Sister Jeremy had no immediate survivors.

Vespers for the Dead were held Oct. 19 in the monastery chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 20, with burial at the monastery cemetery.
