Nun wins

Published November 7, 2013

Sister Rebecca Hendricks, RSM, of Fort Smith had a brush with fame recently when she appeared on “The Price is Right” game show. Sister Rebecca and Sister Judith Marie Keith, also of Fort Smith, accompanied another sister to California this summer and decided to get tickets to see the show.

According to http://www.mercy.net, Sister Rebecca’s name was called to “Come on down.” She guessed the exact amount on a home theater system, earning her way to the stage. Host Drew Carey asked Sister Rebecca what she did for a living. “I’m a nun, a fun nun,” she replied. She played the “range game” and won again -- this time a $5,332 complete home gym.

For the showcase showdown, Sister Rebecca lost, but said she was happy the other contestant won the car because she never owned a car before.

As a Sister of Mercy, Sister Rebecca has taken a vow of poverty and is talking with the president of her community about what to do with her winnings. Sister Rebecca taped the show July 3 but had to keep it confidential until the show aired Oct. 22.
