Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in North Little Rock has funded repairs to a church in Haiti has part of its mission outreach in the country. Beginning in 2014 with former pastor Father T.J. Hart, the parish made its first fact-finding mission. Three parishioners joined Father Hart on the trip.
The parish committed to helping to repair St. Joseph Mission in Pablacol and building a school there. Recently roof and rafters repairs were completed as well as installing wiring for the church. A generator was also purchased. Phase 2, building a new school and furnishing it, is the next project for the parish.
“We are pleased to help the mission parish of St. Joseph Parish, which has between 600 to 700 families in the parish,” said Jim Fulks, committee coordinator. “They recently had a three-day parish celebration to celebrate the parish feast day where they had over 60 received their first Communion, over 50 were baptized and had two weddings, all in their reconditioned church.”
Parishes in Camden, Magnolia and Hot Springs are also working in Haiti, and Fulks said they would like to get more parishes in Arkansas involved in ministering there.
