Parishioners at St. Peter the Fisherman Church in Mountain Home celebrated Father Christopher Okeke’s six years of service at the parish June 11 before he returns to the Umuahia Diocese in Nigeria in early July. Father Okeke has served St. Peter since 2011, celebrating Latin Masses and occasionally treating parishioners to a song during his homilies.
Since he arrived in Arkansas in 2005 he also has ministered in Lake Village, Fort Smith, Jonesboro and Hot Springs.
In 2015, he became a U.S. citizen and last year he celebrated 25 years as a priest. At the reception, he thanked parishioners for their love and support. As a farewell, parishioners could donate money to the Mercy Motherless Babies Home in Okwelle, Imo State, Nigeria, which Father Okeke supports.
