What have you done for your marriage today?

Published: October 25, 2008

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops launched the For Your Marriage Web site in 2007 as part of its National Pastoral Initiative for Marriage. It is a collaborative project of the USCCB Committees on Communications and Marriage and Family Life.

The newest feature to the site includes "Sarah's Blog," a first-hand account of what it is like to prepare for marriage and "Marriage Rx" a section that offers healthy prescriptions for marriage's challenges.

The Web site (www.foryourmarriage.org) also offers resources divided into the following categories:

  • For Every Couple offers statistics on marriage; resources on communication, conflict resolution and commitment; a marriage quiz; daily marriage tips; and advice for dealing with the issues of infidelity, addiction, financial instability, career decisions, parenting, illness, intimacy/sexuality, infertility and domestic violence.

  • Preparing for Your Marriage offers frequently asked questions; a personality audit; readiness quiz; family of origin exercise; and must-have conversation topics such as conflict resolution, career, finances, intimacy/cohabitation, parenthood/stepparenting and spirituality/faith. This section also suggests additional books and Web sites for more information.

  • Caring for Your Marriage offers a grade your marriage quiz; covers the stages of marriage; covers bumps in the road; stories from married couples; and suggests other books, articles and programs.

  • About Catholic Marriage offers explanations of the rite of marriage, Catholic beliefs, biblical roots, marriage as a sacrament and theology of the body; lists prayers; links to Church documents on marriage; details ceremony options; and covers the Church's teaching on divorce, annulment, cohabitation, contraception, natural family planning, same sex unions and re-marriage.

The Web site links to marriage information on diocesan Web sites across the U.S. to help Internet users find marriage information in their local area. For the Diocese of Little Rock, the link goes to the Family Life Office.
