Top photo chosen for 2019 diocesan directory

This photo of St. Joseph Church in Tontitown, taken by Mary Graham of Fayetteville, won first place in Arkansas Catholic’s annual photo contest. The image will appear on the cover of the 2019 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory.

Mary Graham of Fayetteville captured the old bell tower and ruined wall in a view past the new chuch at St. Joseph in Tontitown, and also captured first place in Arkansas Catholic’s 2018 contest to select an image for the cover of the diocesan directory.

Graham will receive photographer credit in the directory, a free copy and a one-year subscription to Arkansas Catholic.

Second place was won by Aubrey Volpert, a diocesan seminarian at the House of Formation in Little Rock, for a photo of statues in a grotto at Subiaco Abbey. Volpert also received honorable mention for a photo of statue of St. Joseph surrounded by flowers on the grounds of the abbey.

The third-place winner was Elaine Lienhart for a photo identified as the Altar of Suffering at St. Edward Church in Little Rock. 

This year’s contest attracted eight qualified entries. Eligible subjects were any architectural element or detail of a Catholic church or institution in Arkansas. Photos were judged by the newspaper staff based on composition, technical quality, visual appeal and suitability for the directory cover.

The 2019 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory will be delivered in late September.
