Brenda Baker, a religious education co-director at St. Peter Church and St. Raphael Church in Pine Bluff and St. Justin Church in Star City, was honored with the Daniel Rudd Award Jan. 11 by the Diocesan Council for Black Catholics.
The DCBC hosts the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Mass at the Cathedral of St. Andrew with Bishop Anthony B. Taylor as the celebrant.
Baker, a retired teacher, also contributes to St. Peter Church as a lector, Vacation Bible School teacher and member of the parish council. Rudd, a former slave who lived as an adult in Marion, organized the first National Black Catholic Congress.
