Wynne deacon had served church since 2012

Deacon Carlos Guzmán, who served at St. Peter Church in Wynne, died April 11. He was 71.

Born March 22, 1949, he was ordained a deacon Nov. 24, 2012.

In 2018 he was assigned to pastoral care at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He also ministered through Acción Misionera in St. Peter Parish, the Retrouvaille team in Jonesboro and visiting the Newport prison.

“I was invited to apply in the church,” he said in 2012. “This idea caught my attention and now I’m preparing and growing in knowledge of God and how much he needs us. I am grateful to God for all he has blessed us in every aspect.”

He made his career maintaining, processing, drying and loading rice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Casimiro Guzmán and Rosa Beltrán.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky Guzmán, to whom he was married for 41 years; his three sons, Carlos Iván Guzmán, Daniel Guzmán and Jorge Alberto Guzmán; and three grandchildren.

In addition to being devoted to his faith and family, he loved fishing.

A private memorial Mass was held April 15 at St. Peter Church in Wynne. A funeral and burial will be in Mexico at a later date.
