This photo by Jay Kutchka of Fort Smith, of stained glass depicting the Eucharist at Sts. Sabina and Mary Church in Jenny Lind, won first place in Arkansas Catholic’s annual photo contest.

A stained-glass depiction of the Eucharist as the body of Christ at Sts. Sabina and Mary Church in Jenny Lind by Jay W. Kutchka of Fort Smith is the subject of the winning photo in Arkansas Catholic’s annual contest to select an image for the cover of the next diocesan directory.

This is Kutchka's first year to win, but his photos have placed in the contest for the past two years.

Debbie Moss of Rogers took second place with her photo of a traditional altar at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Springdale. Our Lady of Sorrows is one of the diocese's newest parishes and this is the first time in modern memory for a photo of a Latin Mass community to place in the contest.

Third place went to Caroline Brodell of Jonesboro for her image of St. Richard Church in Bald Knob. Honorable mentions were awarded to Thomas Howe of Sherwood and Ronni Moore of Bella Vista.

This year’s contest, judged March 29 by Arkansas Catholic staff members, attracted 13 qualified entries from photographers in eight Arkansas cities, which also included Little Rock, Hot Springs and North Little Rock.

The 2024 Diocese of Little Rock Directory will be delivered in fall 2023.
