Catholic school teachers, staffers tell of retirements

Eight teachers, staffers will retire after at least 20 years

Catholic schools in the diocese announced eight teachers and staff were retiring by the end of the school year. The following employees worked in Catholic schools for at least 20 years.

• Fayetteville: Debbie Clark, cafeteria manager at St. Joseph School, is retiring after 24 years at the school.

• Fort Smith: Karri Karrant, second-grade teacher at Christ the King School, will retire with 27 years of teaching. Cindy Robertson, third-grade teacher at Immaculate Conception School, will retire after 26 years at the school.

• Little Rock: Jeanne Quick, computer teacher and secretary at Christ the King School, is retiring with 32 years of experience in Catholic education. Fourth-grade teacher Debby Curtis has worked in Catholic education for 39 years, with 34 years at Christ the King.

At Catholic High School, Gretchen Gowen, English Department chair, will retire with 43 years in Catholic education, including 27 years at CHS. Bitsi Bonner, English teacher and attendance officer, will retire with 37 years at CHS.

• Morrilton: At Sacred Heart School, religion teacher Mary Kay Wiedower is retiring. She has held different positions with the school and church, including in the school office, director of religious education for 24 years and religion teacher for 29 years.
