On Saturday, Oct. 6 the Verso L’alto Family Hiking Club of St. Joseph School in Fayetteville had its inaugural excursion. Forty-seven students and their families met at the school and carpooled to Devil’s Den State Park to hike the 1.3 mile Devil’s Den Trail. The hiking club has an outing planned for each quarter of the school year. The next hike will be to Artist Point near Winslow, with a stop at Our Lady of the Ozarks Shrine in Winslow for Mass on Sunday, Dec. 9. The name “Verso L’alto” comes from a phrase made famous by Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. Blessed Frassati wrote this phrase, which means “to the top” in Italian, on a photo of himself climbing a mountain.
