Benedictine sisters jubilarians

Published July 18, 2019

Two Benedictine sisters were honored during a Mass July 11 at Holy Angels Convent in Jonesboro for celebrating their 25th and 70th anniversaries of vowed life. Sister Therese Johnson and Sister Mary John Seyler renewed their vows during the Mass presided by Bishop Anthony B. Taylor. They were surrounded by their fellow religious sisters, family members and friends.

During her 25 years as a professed sister, Sister Therese has worked in the business office and as the librarian, vocations director, organist and subprioress at the motherhouse and taught religious education in Paragould, Pocahontas, Jonesboro and West Memphis. Currently, Sister Therese teaches religious education at St Anthony Church in Weiner and is the community sacristan.

Over the past 70 years, Sister Mary John has taught in Jonesboro, Little Rock and Lake Arthur, La., and was the principal in Muenster, Texas, and Pocahontas. When she returned to the motherhouse, she began a new ministry in the Pastoral Care Department at St Bernards, Medical Center in Jonesboro. She is currently the community’s oblate director.
