One of the most unique silent auction items during the St. Joseph School Bazaar Aug. 2-3 in Conway was a handcrafted coffin made by parishioner Lucas Strack. It was crafted from vintage church pews and remnants of a pecan tree that once stood behind St. Joseph Church’s old rectory.
Strack, a 2002 graduate of St. Joseph High School, is a partner in the firm of H&N Architects in Conway and owns Strack Studio Furniture. Before Strack began building the coffin, he went to Subiaco Abbey to observe how the Benedictine monks make their coffins.
