Deacon José Noé Morales-Cabello and his wife Maria Angelica have been assigned to work at St. Augustine Church in Dardanelle, St. Andrew Church in Danville and St. John Church in Russellville.
They began working in the Diocese of Little Rock two months ago after moving from California.
Morales-Cabello, 56, was ordained June 16, 2007, through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, serving in the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region. The couple moved with their daughter Beatrice, 30, from Oxnard, Calif. (Ventura County), where they served at Mary Star of the Sea Church. They also have a 28-year-old son Armando.
Morales-Cabello said they moved to Arkansas because of the high cost of living in California and health issues. He is hoping to be placed on the donor list for a new kidney.
“I’m still trying to adapt to the community … to know the people,” he said.
Father Mauricio Carrasco, pastor at St. Augustine and St. Andrew churches and associate pastor for Hispanic ministry at St. John Church, said the spiritual support has been a blessing, as he has served at the three parishes and is bilingual.
“He has a shepherd’s eye in many ways. He knows he wants to get to know the community and wants to help out. Way beyond just the liturgical service he provides to the people, I know that he cares for them as a community,” Father Carrasco said.
