Students from Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock visited Washington, D.C. Jan. 19-25, part of the Close Up experiential learning program.
It is the 11th year students have participated in the program, which seeks to “inform, inspire and empower young people to become actively engaged citizens,” according to MSM.
The eight students visited several Capitol sites, including the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court Building, Library of Congress, FBI Headquarters, International Spy Museum, Arlington National Cemetery and Holocaust Memorial Museum. They also participated in debates, a mock Congress, discussed current issues with students from other states, saw public demonstrations and visited their Congressmen’s offices.
Students visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on MLK Day, Jan. 20. MSM alumna Liz Beadle, director at The Glover Park Group, organized a meeting of alumnae with students.
