The HoneyBelles, a club at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock that maintains a bee-friendly garden and educational hive on campus, recently became concerned about the plight of bees and beekeepers in Australia because of the drought conditions and resulting bushfires. They reached out to the New South Wales Apiarist Association to find out how they could help. The HoneyBelles partnered with the Walnut Valley Honey Company in Little Rock and others to learn how to make lip balm using beeswax. The club members made and sold lip balm for several weeks to raise funds for the professional beekeepers. A donation of $500 was given to Hive Aid.
