St. Peter Church celebrates 50th anniversary

St. Peter Church in Pine Bluff held a Mass and celebration Aug. 14 to honor former pastor Father Thomas Mullally’s 50th anniversary. The Society of the Divine Word priest served St. Peter Church, St. Raphael Mission in Pine Bluff and St. Justin Mission in Star City from 1984 to 1996 and in prison ministry.

Well-wishers also came from St. Augustine Church in North Little Rock, St. Bartholomew Church in Little Rock and St. Joseph Church in Pine Bluff. Father Leon Ngandu, SVD, pastor of St. Bartholomew and St. Augustine, honored Father Mullaly on behalf of the Southern Province of the Society of the Divine Word. Mayor Shirley M. Washington acknowledged “Father Tom’s” 12 years in the city with a proclamation.

While he is retired as pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Greenville, Miss., he continues to be a substitute priest in Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
