Ozark track at state

The Griffins of Ozark Catholic Academy placed in the top 10 in team scoring in both boys and girls divisions of the 1A state track and field championships. The meet was contested May 4 in Quitman. The boys squad placed fifth in team scoring while the girls team finished eighth in the state.

Isabella Antony, a sophomore, placed first in the 300m hurdles, second in the 100m hurdles and was named to the All State team. Anna Constantino, a senior, placed sixth in the 3200m run while junior Mia Passantino competed in the 200m. 

The 4x100m relay, comprised of Passantino, Antony, Stefany Mendoza and Fiona Pearce, placed fifth while the 4x200m relay placed ninth, made up of Mendoza, Pearce, Antony and Maramarie Abide. 

On the boys side, Isaac Pohlmeier placed first in the 1600m, third in the 3200m and sixth in the 800m. The freshman was also named to the All State roster. Hayden Poe, a senior, placed fifth in the 1600m and 3200m while sophomore John Paul Schaefer placed 14th in the 300m hurdles.  

Connor Lang, Ervin Sanchez, Thomas Rocha and Schaefer combined for a gold medal in the 4x400m relay, which landed the team All State honors. The Griffins’ 4x800m relay, made up of Pohlmeier, Schaefer, Joey Squillace and Omar Gonzalez, placed third. The 4x200m relay, comprised of Matthew Webb, Ervin Sanchez, Abraham Sanchez and Tyler Thomas, placed eighth. Webb, Thomas, Land and Gianni Squillace also competed in the 4x100m relay.
