Surgeons at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro installed the region’s first smart knee implant Nov. 9, improving monitoring and outcomes for patients recovering from total knee replacement surgeries.
Using the world’s only smart knee implant with “de novo” status from the FDA, surgeons can measure a patient's daily motion, step counts, walking speeds and other metrics. The smart system features a sensor that records and wirelessly transmits data from the knee implant to a patient’s base station at home. It then delivers the data to the surgeon.
