Joe Huck of Magazine, Ark., is looking into forming a German/Swiss heritage association, specifically aimed at (but not limited to) descendants of immigrants who came here to Arkansas as a result of the founding of Subiaco Abbey and its associated parishes and missions. Tentative name for the group: Die Arkansasflusstal-Einwanderer Gesellschaft, the Arkansas River Valley Immigrants Society.
Huck said. "The purpose of the group, as I see it, would be to bring together the descendants of these pioneers, to share the stories of their struggles to find a new life, to preserve these memories and associated documents and images, and to strengthen the bond between us all by tracing the interrelated genealogies of the immigrant families. Just how formal or informal the group is remains to be seen and would depend upon the level of interest."
If anyone is interested, email Huck at . Please use the subject header "Germans."
