Free to be a Catholic

Published: August 5, 2022

Every day we encounter so many choices.  Do we put in an honest day at work or do the minimum, dress up or dress casually, speak nicely or gossip, be honest or lie, go to Church on Sunday or break a Commandment, serve me and my body's pleasures or live in communion with the truth that makes us free?  We are free to choose to lean into Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life.  Or we can do what feels good and easy and soon be wrapped in the slavery of our sins.

Thankfully, God does not abandon His creatures.  Seek Jesus in the Bible, the Sacraments, in the fellowship at Mass, and the Rosary with Mary.  CCC 301

Tomorrow we will experience more choices, fears, feelings and emotions.  Do I vote for abortion or vote for life, vote for socialism which subordinates the basic rights of individuals and of groups to the collective organization of production or vote for free market with reasonable regulation and economic initiatives in keeping with a just hierarchy of values and a view to the common good, vote for green new deal or vote for being good stewards of the environment while maintaining fiscal responsiblity?  Do I believe in lies or search for truth?  CCC 2424, 2425

The more we give up our own desires and choices and follow Christ, we begin while on earth to enter into the joy of the Lord.  CCC 1720

I want to be more than free to be a Catholic.  I want to follow Christ as a child.  Allowing Him to guide me toward His own goodness and divine providence in all of my choices from my prayers, to our schools, our Churches, to books, movies, arts, friends, families, my thoughts, words and actions.  CCC 302

There is no true freedom except in the service of what is good and just.  We are free to choose what we ought to do.  CCC 1733
