LOS ANGELES -- Tom Clark has learned to overcome tough crowds during a standup comedy career that has taken him to stages nationwide, as well as TV shows including “Conan,” “The Late Late Show” and “Premium Blend” over the past 20 years. While the Milwaukee native always managed to make his classmates laugh while growing up in Catholic schools, he only decided that comedy was his calling while working with troubled and impoverished teens in Mexico.

The Third Sunday of Advent is Gaudete Sunday. At our church, the altar was particularly beautiful on this day. Father’s rose-colored vestments highlighted the purple, rose and green of the Advent wreath. I was the cantor, and from my seat the view was beautiful. I thought, “I need to take a picture and post it on Facebook.” I knew people would see me get my iPhone out, but how could I pass it up? I reasoned with myself, “Father Matt’s mother would love this picture of him in his rose-colored vestments.” (Columns)
