Weekly Masses at St. Joseph Church in Conway allow children of the parish to make their own separate financial contributions as a way of educating them on the value of stewardship and community service. At the end of the calendar year, those donations are totaled and the children decide how that money will be spent. They’re given the names of several charities to choose from.
The children raised $12,000 in 2016 and selected the City of Hope Outreach Program, Catholic Charities Adoption Services, and the Conway Regional Health System to receive $4,000 each. The City of Hope will use the funds to buy Christmas gifts for needy children. The money going to Catholic Charities Adoption Services will be used for the needs of babies recently born. The Conway Regional Health System is dividing its gift to pay for newborn blanket warmers, a game center for its Pediatric Unit and fleece blankets for children staying in that unit. Checks were presented by the church’s Stewardship Commission and a group of parish children Feb. 8.
