Arkansas Catholic wins Catholic Media Association awards

Editor, associate editor honored nationally for articles published in Arkansas Catholic

Arkansas Catholic received two national awards from the Catholic Media Association June 10 during a virtual awards program. Editor Malea Hargett earned honorable mention for best editorial on a local issue for her editorial titled “Hate crimes law is long overdue in state.” Associate editor Aprille Hanson Spivey earned first place in best in-depth news/special reporting for “God Walks with People Who Have Addictions,” a special section published March 28, 2020.

“It is the biggest honor for a Catholic journalist to be recognized by the Catholic Media Association,” Hargett said. “Nearly every year that I have been the editor since 1994 we have earned at least one award from the CMA.”

“We are blessed to have a staff that is not only committed to their Catholic faith, but has years of experience and professional training in journalism,” Spivey said. “That quality is what makes this an award-winning newspaper, along with readers who value truth and spiritual fulfillment. We are grateful to have our work recognized on a national level.”
