Former Latin Mass chaplain dies unexpectedly at 52

Father Terrence Patrick Gordon, FSSP, a former chaplain for the Latin Mass community in North Little Rock now based in Cabot, died of a heart attack April 28. He was 52.

He was born on March 17, 1971, to Beatrice Tena and James Patrick Gordon. He was baptized at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in his native Nogales, Ariz.

Before entering the seminary, Father Gordon received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He served in the Marine Corps as an officer, reaching the rank of captain.

Father Gordon entered Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in 1999. He was ordained a priest by Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz, then bishop of Lincoln, Neb., on June 3, 2006. His older brother James was ordained in 2004 and his younger brother Dennis in 2008.

For his first assignment, he was assistant chaplain at the fraternity’s apostolate, St. John the Baptist, in North Little Rock. He had previously served in Arkansas as a deacon. Father Gordon became chaplain in 2007 but was transferred to Omaha in 2009.

Requiem Masses were held May 8 at St. Mary Cathedral in Colorado Springs and May 11 at Immaculate Conception Church in Omaha. Burial is in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary cemetery in Denton, Neb.
