Missionary Catechist ministered to Hispanic community

Sister Verónica Figueroa Sanchez, MCP, a Missionary Catechist of the Poor for 26 years, died Jan. 31. She was 56.

Sister Verónica Figueroa Sanchez, MCP, a Missionary Catechist of the Poor for 26 years, died Jan. 31. She was 56.

Born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Sister Verónica entered the order Aug. 7, 1994, made her first profession Aug. 16, 1997, and made her perpetual vows July 27, 2002. 

Sister Verónica had a bachelor’s degree in catechetical formation from the Marist University of Guadalajara and a master's degree in family pedagogy. 

She carried out parish ministry in Mexico, St. Edward Church in Little Rock and in Wichita, Kan. She was diocesan director of catechesis in the Diocese of Texcoco, Mexico, and collaborated in the School of Theology in the Diocese of Nuevo Laredo. In 2022-2023, she served as an associate director of Hispanic youth and young adult ministry for the Diocese of Little Rock.
