Subiaco receives $17,000 grant

Published July 18, 2019

The Benedictine monks of Subiaco Abbey were the only religious order based in Arkansas to receive a grant from Support Our Aging Religious. The monk recently received a $17,000 grant from SOAR! to replace flooring in their infirmary. The board of directors for SOAR! recently approved $1.3 million in grants to assist aging Catholic sisters, brothers and priests in religious orders. These grants will be distributed to 74 Catholic religious congregations of men and women in 17 states and the District of Columbia; they will benefit 9,036 senior men and women religious.

The grant to Subiaco Abbey will allow the monks to replace 25-year-old tiling in their health center’s patient rooms. The tiling is not slip-resistant, and aging monks who use walkers and canes have difficulty safely walking into their rooms and getting in and out of bed.
