Pat Franz, a member of the Class of 1978 of Subiaco Academy, was recognized in June for his 20 years of service as the director of Camp Subiaco. The award was presented to him by Abbot Leonard Wangler at an assembly with the 2019 campers looking on. Perry Trachier presented Franz with a couple of framed pictures and spoke about his years of working at the camp with Franz.
Under Franz, the camp has expanded to two weeks and involves hundreds of alumni and students.
Franz said some of his fondest memories of Camp Subiaco are when the campers camp out one night on the ridges at the original site of the monastery and tell them of how Subiaco Abbey was founded.
