Olivetan Benedictine Sister spent career cooking, teaching and serving others

Convent for nearly 75 years, died July 22. She was 92.

Born Marion Louise, March 8, 1931, to Robert and Christine Wise in Little Rock, Sister Dominica entered the Church at age 11 along with her mother, sister and brother. 

She attended a Dominican boarding school near San Francisco, Calif., and returned to Arkansas to enter Holy Angels Academy after graduating eighth grade. She entered the convent a year later in 1948. She made her first vows in 1950 and perpetual vows in 1954. 

Sister Dominica spent her first few years as a sister using her culinary talents, cooking for the convent, St. Bernards Hospital, several mission houses, and St. John Seminary and St. Andrew Daycare, both in Little Rock. She also spent 40 years cooking, teaching and serving as the director of Little Angels Daycare. 

Sister Dominica earned her associate’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 2020, she celebrated 70 years of religious life. 

She is survived by her brother, Robert Wise; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held July 24 at Holy Angels Convent. The Mass of Christian Burial was held in the convent chapel July 25 with internment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Holy Angels Convent Retirement Fund, 1699 CR 766, Jonesboro, AR, 72405.
