This photo by Jake Greeling of Bella Vista, of a relief sculpture of Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. Stephen Church in Bentonville, won first place in Arkansas Catholic's annual photo contest.

A colorful relief sculpture of Our Lady of Guadalupe in an arched niche at St. Stephen Church in Bentonville was captured in a winning photo by C. Jacob Greeling of Bella Vista. Arkansas Catholic's annual photo contest selects an image for the cover of the next Diocese of Little Rock directory.

This is Greeling's first entry to win at any level of the contest and the first time St. Stephen was depicted in a winning photo.

Mary Compton of Hope took second place with her photo of the Blessed Sacrament exposed in a delicately ornate monstrance shining in the light of the adoration chapel at Our Lady of Good Hope Church in Hope. Compton's entries also placed in 2019 and earned an honorable mention in 2020.

Third place went to Caroline Brodell of Jonesboro for her image of a sculpture at the entrance to the cemetery at Holy Angels Convent in Jonesboro. The monument shows women grieving at the foot of Christ on the cross. Brodell's entries have taken multiple wins and other placements in past contests.

Honorable mentions were awarded to entries by Mary Stryjewski of Hot Springs, Debora Moss of Rogers, Aaron Breshears of Altus and Tony Brodell of Jonesboro. The Brodells are the first married couple to enter photos competing against each other.

This year's contest, judged April 3 by Arkansas Catholic staff members, brought in 17 qualified entries from photographers in nine Arkansas cities, which also included Farmington, Heber Springs and Bauxite.

The 2025 Diocese of Little Rock Directory will be delivered this fall.
