New principals begin tenure in diocese's Catholic schools

  • Russellville: St. John

    Carla Takach

    Hometown: Panhandle, Texas

    Family: Married to Robert Takach and they have two children

    Hobbies: Reading, pets, grandchildren, gardening

    Education: Bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Arkansas Tech University; currently in the diocese's Catholic School Leadership Program through the University of Dallas

    Experience: Takach was a teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Marche for seven years. She also taught at private schools in Russellville and El Paso, Texas, as well as the Adult Education Center in Russellville, all for one year each.

    Benefits of Catholic education: It "gives students the basis for lifelong enduring faith and belief in God. This foundation remains throughout difficult times that challenge our faith and hope. ... I believe that a Catholic education is and will be the saving grace of the Church."

  • Fort Smith: Trinity Junior High

    Chandler Doss

    Hometown: Fort Smith

    Family: Married to Philip Doss and they have three children

    Hobbies: Traveling with family, computer games, reading, shopping

    Favorite saint: Maria Goretti

    Education: Bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in counseling psychology from Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Okla.; secondary administration certification through the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville

    Experience: Doss taught math for nine years in the Fort Smith School District. She was also a school psychology specialist for eight years and assistant principal at Southside High School for three years.

    Goals: "To bring the mission of Catholic schools back to the forefront of education at Trinity; To provide consistent, stable leadership so that growth can take place; and to afford all students a safe, secure atmosphere where their self-esteem and moral character can flourish."

  • North Little Rock: Immaculate Conception

    Diane Wolfe

    Family: Married to Keith Wolfe and they had three children; one is deceased

    Education: Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La.; currently pursuing master's degree in educational leadership and management at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway

    Experience: Wolfe taught math at Immaculate Conception for four years; Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock for three years; and at Central High School in Little Rock for eight years. She also taught middle school math and high school science in Shreveport, La., and Colorado Springs, Colo. She was the assistant principal at Immaculate Conception the past school year.

    Educational Philosophy: "I believe traditional values such as respect for authority and country, perseverance, consideration of others and self-discipline should be taught and the principal is both an intellectual and moral role model."

  • Pocahontas: St. Paul

    Karla Thielemier

    Hometown: Pocahontas

    Family: Married to Phillip Thielemier and they have three children

    Hobbies: Being outdoors; softball and fishing

    Favorite Scripture: Philippians 4:13

    Education: Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Williams Baptist College and master's degrees in both educational leadership and curriculum and instruction from Arkansas State University

    Experience: Thielemier has taught at St. Paul for nine years and previously served as principal for two years. She also taught one year in the Maynard School District and two years at St. Theodore School in St. Louis, Mo.

    Educational philosophy: "All people have the capacity to learn. A person is comprised of three components: mental, physical and spiritual. It is the job of Catholic education to address each of these components. ... Learning is a lifelong process that ultimately is a ticket to freedom."

  • Pine Bluff: St. Peter

    Carol Ann Beeman

    Family: Beeman is a widow with two children, four grandchildren and one great-child.

    Education: Bachelor's degree in education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe; master's degree in art therapy from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; and is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock

    Experience: Over a 40-year period, Beeman has taught art, religion, music, Spanish, journalism, speech, drama and math in both public and private schools in four states. This includes teaching at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Marche, St. Patrick in North Little Rock and St. Edward in Little Rock.

    Goals: Increasing enrollment and making the school financially sound; nurturing the teachers; and starting an after-school program offering tutoring and art therapy

  • Subiaco: Subiaco Academy

    Deacon Roy E. Goetz

    Hometown: Piedmount, Mo.

    Family: Married to Cheryl Goetz and they have two children

    Favorite Scripture: John 13:13-16

    Hobbies: Kayaking, playing blues guitar

    Education: Bachelor's degree in instrumental music performance from Lyon College in Batesville; ordained a deacon for Diocese of Little Rock in 1998

    Experience: Goetz taught in public schools in Gould for two years and Oak Ridge Central for 10 years. At St. Paul School in Pocahontas for two years, he taught and served as principal. He has been at Subiaco Academy since 2002.

    Goals: "To encourage community and compassion; to help young men to discover and develop their talents and put them at the service of others."

    Educational Philosophy: "Education helps us understand the world around us. As our understanding grows so does our capacity for meaningful service."
